Sticky Note #1

This is just me reminding myself of several things that I learned today and other things that I don’t want to forget, plus and thing else rattling between my ears.

1) I have 3 Firefox windows open to help me sort all the web pages I’ve open and haven’t read yet. These pages are based on 3 different searches: How to make a Business Blog, How to Blog Better, and How to Make Money with a Blog.

I don’t expect to actually make money with what I’m working on now, but in the future I can be a consultant and I expect to become proficient enough that it shouldn’t be a forgone conclusion that I couldn’t make money this way. I look at what I’m doing now…blogging! I have also found many helpful hints and directions even in reading the Example of a basic first article.

The other 2 searches are understandable because I will be taking over the management of BUA’s devotional blog Theological Tapas. There is much to learn and even more to develop on this blog because: it’s just starting out and nobody at the school knows how to manage a blog(yea me!!) Then again, I, literally, asked for it. I hope to learn a lot towards getting a paying job doing something similar(yes I’m doing this for free.)

2)Next thing I need to do for Tapas is read all the articles and figure out if they are properly tagged and bagged. This will be a wonderfully long job the I have no choice but to do because there is no one else to work with me at the moment because every one in the Public Relations Department is already working their butts off trying to finish their projects with out yet another delay from other departments at the school.

3)One of the things that I will be learning is how to use social media to help promote the devotionals. From what I have read in the past 3 or 4 hours, I’m going to learn how to make this blog popular in a niche market, which is not an easy thing to do.

I have no idea how to do any of this because I’m a social recluse. I read Facebook and don’t use Twitter because I think it’s an absurd waste of time with most of what the Twits are cranking out. I mean seriously why would you tweet about each stage of labor you’re in WHILE GIVING BIRTH, there are more important things happening in the world such as BIRTH OF YOUR CHILD. Now don’t get me wrong the Twitter Revolt in Iran showed it to be a very useful device. So, I guess I’ll just have to get used to it.

4)I need to figure out how to get more writers for Tapas; as simple as that.

I

NEED

WRITERS

!!!

This should prove to be very simple and very challenging at the same time. Tapas is a very new devo blog and requires a lot of maturing. I know that there are a lot of things that need to be addressed such as: readers, writers, advertising, and everything else that I don’t know about, but I think the first item, beside everything else that I don’t know about, will be getting more writers. These wonderful people will be the my biggest push towards making Tapas a popular blog.

5)I don’t know it Tapas will be the one to do it but I have an idea that the school could provide more than making a place for students to make devos but also come up with a way to allow Students and/or maybe just Professors a place to post shining examples of BUA scholarly academics. I Don’t have any solid idea of how this will look(most likely a separate blog on the BUA website.) I may even make one just for fun to because I need more practice and it will be a great place for students to show off their work. It will also give me practice on making a different type of site looking to get a different type of reader and maybe even allow for some great unpublished work to become published. I can already see that I’m going to be learning a lot about public and private licensing and copyrighting(yea more critical learning!!)

6)I didn’t thing that this would happen so quickly but I think that I have the start of a personal blog. I mean all I’ll be talking about is MY progress and testing how to make a WordPress work in every way I want it to but I’m surprised with how much I’m writing. Hopefully this will help me get though the writing block that I have at school and allow me to write my papers. That is just something that I’ll just have to wait and see.
